We Offer a Comfortable, Permanent, Solution for Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) not only causes obnoxiously loud snoring but can also lead to serious health problems. The combination between sleep deprivation and a lack of oxygen in the body can lead to permanent cardiovascular damage and even death.
Although CPAP treatment can be effective, it is cumbersome and does not address the problem, it only addresses a symptom of an underlying problem.
What we have to offer as a solution does not require a CPAP machine or surgery of any type. The sleep apnea system treats the source of the problem and fixes it for good.
El Dorado Dental now presents a practical solution that can not only stop mild to moderate sleep apnea from occurring but keep it from ever happening again.
What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea of any type will cause a person to have repeated pauses of breathing where the breath completely stops for prolonged periods of time throughout their sleep cycle.
Depending on the type of sleep apnea a person suffers from there can be various types of treatment.
There are three different types of sleep apnea:
- Central
- Obstructive
- Complex
Out of these three, the most common form is obstructive. What it means to have obstructive sleep apnea is that there is something in the mouth or throat that is obstructing the airflow during sleep.
The good news about this particular type of sleep apnea is that it is curable. By removing, or correcting the obstruction a patient can be freed from constant restless nights and horrendous snoring.
What Causes Obstructive Sleep Apnea?
One of the most common causes of obstructive sleep apnea is when the jaw of the patient is not properly developed. Whether it is an upper jaw issue such as maxillary hypoplasia, or a lower jaw issue such as mandibular retrognathia if the jaw is not correctly aligned it causes problems in the airway of the sleeper.
Although during the waking hours there may not be evidence that suggests that there is an airway blockage, during sleep while the muscles relax it is an entirely different story.
The size of the tonsils, the way that the tongue rests during sleep, the position of the person sleeping, and the way that the muscles relax during sleep are all part of the varying factors that add to the issue of an offset jawbone.
Many patients that have suffered from obstructive sleep apnea have been able to find relief from it by simply correcting the alignment of their jawbone.
The El Dorado Dental Solution
El Dorado Dental uses an innovative technology solution for sleep apnea. There is no surgery involved, nor is there a need for cumbersome equipment. We simply craft an appliance that you can wear during the day and at night that gradually corrects maxillary hypoplasia or mandibular retrognathia.
The way that it works, depending on your situation and the results of your initial exam, is that while you wear the appliance it gently pushes your jaw into the correct position. As you wear the appliance it applies just enough pressure to the palate to expand it and correct the issue.
